Composite lamination (Bonding) Application
Being an esthetical dentistry application bonding process has some advantages and disadvantages compared to other applications. Composite lamination, Composite bonding, esthetical filing; are the other names for this process.
In this treatment, esthetically developed composites that have chameleon effect are applied to teeth’s outer layers using powerful adhesives. Depending on the need this can be done without abrading the teeth and can even be applied after contouring.
This is a process that is harmless to the tooth surface and adjusts tooth forming and color to provide an esthetical visual. Experience and hand dexterity of the doctor involved in the process are also very important. Composites that can provide opacity, clearness, color effects and transparency are used with the layering technique and applied to teeth.

In Which Situations Does Bonding Preferred?
Primarily when closing the space between teeth(diastema),
Treatment in front tooth that has colored filling, breaks and decay,
Increasing the height of front teeth, for contouring purposes,
To provide esthetics for malocclusion of teeth,
Coloring and abrasion at tooth and gum border.
Teeth that got colored from Antibiotics or Fluorosis and deformed.

What Are the Steps of Bonding Application?
The health condition of the gum that will undergo treatment is important. During the process any blood, spit etc. bodily liquid negatively effects the success of treatment. Firstly, these factors must be eliminated. During most processes anesthesia won’t be necessary, application is done without anesthesia. During most broken tooth treatments special preparations are done such as silicone index. Teeth eroding and contouring can be done if found necessary. For most bonding processes no eroding is done on the tooth.
Isolation is provided using rubber dam or retraction cords. Etching processes are done to provide enough adhesion between the tooth and esthetical composite material. The surface is ready and composites are applied to the tooth with layering technique depending on opacity, transparency and color temperature. Expectation of the patient is corrected with the artistry of the doctor.
Final form is given using burs and disks. Opposing disc relation is evaluated using factors like teeth appearance and finally polishing process is started using special rubber discs. For surface to be polished as much as possible and for it to be shiny is very important for long term success. The chance for these shiny surfaces that are replicated from real teeth to be colored is very low.
